Dear Fans of Freddie Mercury:
‘St. Peter’s School’, is a 105 years old boarding school founded in 1904. It was formerly known as the ‘European Boys’ School’. The school is essentially a residential boarding facility for boys, but a few day scholars are also admitted.
Established in the dying decades of the British Empire in India the school enjoys the best of both cultures, to provide a fulfilling and stimulating environment for young minds. The school runs on the lines of a ‘public school’ institution with a Headmaster and a Board of Trustees.
Spread over 58 acres of picturesque setting the campus has classrooms up to Grade 10, laboratories, playing fields, art & music rooms, barber shop, tuck shop, gymnasium, library, computer room, dinning hall, hospital, church, teachers living accommodation and the various dormitories that house the 325 students.
ONE SUCH STUDENT BY THE NAME OF FAROOKH BULSARA JOINED SCHOOL IN 1954 AND LEFT IN 1962 TO MOVE TO THE UNITED KINGDOM WITH HIS PARENTS, WHERE 8-10 YEARS LATER HE WAS TO BECOME ONE OF ROCKS GREATEST STARS AS ‘QUEEN’ FRONTMAN – FREDDIE
MERCURY.
In fact, in school itself he was part of a 5 member band called ‘The Hectics’, with Farookh on the piano. It was around this time that his friends in school nicknamed him ‘Freddie’ in keeping with his English band image. Incidentally, the piano still sits in the majestic assembly hall of St. Peter’s School to date although on November 29, 2002 a fateful fire partially damaged the piano.
We truly believe the time is ripe for all Freddie fans from across the world to connect with his Alma Mater, (the one & only one) in India, and to include Panchgani (in Maharashtra State) as a must see destination in their travel itinerary.
For this express purpose, we have authorized an ex-student of the school, Anil Shergill, Class of ’68, of Blue Flame Enterprises Inc. (Canada), to help facilitate India related tour packages, through the expertise of Marlin Travel, Vancouver, Canada and Mercury Travels Ltd., Mumbai, India, all of which conclude in a visit to St. Peter’s School.
St. Peter’s School looks forward to serving every Freddie Mercury fan.
